Kräutergarten der Caritas in Retz

Model garden, Outdoor adventure

Description

The Caritas facility for the disabled of the Archdiocese of Vienna runs a show garden at the day care center in Retz, where around 20 men and women work. "I can do it" is one of the central themes of the disabled facility's mission statement. The "gardening" workshop looks after the herb and flower beds, the shrubs and wild fruit trees (e.g. quinces, medlars, cornelian cherries, raspberries and currants) as well as the extensive lawns in the garden. Another important task is the separation and disposal of waste and, as part of this, the management of the compost area. The "green space maintenance" workshop also carries out internal and external maintenance work, i.e. lawn and garden maintenance and the disposal of green waste. The herbs, flowers and fruit that grow on the grounds of the nursery and in the garden are processed into various products in the day care center's workshops. This results in a wide range of herbal teas, herbal salts, syrups, liqueurs, jellies and scented sachets.
