Description

Where a Gothic castle once stood in ancient times, Wilfersdorf Castle has been in the uninterrupted possession of the Princely Family of Liechtenstein since 1440. Since then, the historic magnificent building has undergone major renovations. In the 19th century, it briefly served as a Prussian cholera hospital. Today, the completely renovated castle invites visitors to take a tour, visit the museum and enjoy the castle wine tavern and wine shop.

The northern side wing of the castle houses an exciting local history collection: 10-million-year-old elephant and rhinoceros bones are on display, as well as other finds from the Neolithic period onwards. Also on display are farming tools, historical furnishings and church clocks from the 18th and early 20th centuries.

The first floor in the main wing of the castle is dedicated to the history of the owners: a permanent multimedia exhibition guides visitors through the eventful history of Liechtenstein. Valuable exhibits bear witness to the economic and cultural development of the princely family from the Weinviertel region.

The weekend wine tavern in the centuries-old vaults of Wilfersdorf Castle is run by several wine-growing families on a rotating basis. The adjoining vinotheque offers a selection from local wineries and the Prince of Liechtenstein's court winery. Thanks to the spacious children's playground in the former castle moat, even the youngest visitors are guaranteed not to get bored.

A guided tour lasts around 90 minutes and is available for groups of 10 or more.

However, the castle can also be visited without a guided tour.
