Mammutbäume am Eichberg

Mountain summit, Outdoor adventure

Description

On the plateau of the Eichberg at 380 m, southeast of Paudorf, there is a stand of sequoia trees that is unique in its size in Austria.Adalbert Dungel was the forester of the monastery of Göttweig from 1877 to 1886 and in 1880 he planted several seeds of the "Wellingtonia gigantea" in the soil. Today, these "Adalbert Wellingtonias" tower high above the treetops of the surrounding forests as true sequoias.

Hike to the redwoods

The marked hiking trail "Göttweiger Wald-Erlebniswelt" leads to the sequoia trees on the Eichberg.
The starting point is at the parking lot, turn off from the main road to Bruckweg (on the connecting road Paudorf in the direction of Klein-Wien), which is also already well marked coming from Göttweig. From this starting point of the adventure trail, the 2.1 km long route leads to the redwood trees. This path runs for the most part through wooded terrain and is ideal for a walk, or a short excursion with children.
