Description
Special exhibition EISZEIT
This wine tavern year, the MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach is dedicating itself to the beginnings of modern man in Central Europe. These date back some 40,000 years, to the Ice Age (2.8 million to 11,700 BC), when Homo sapiens roamed the vast steppe landscape as Ice Age nomads, following the herds of mammoths, horses and reindeer. The exhibition shows various archaeological finds, reconstructions of clothing, weapons and tools, an Ice Age camp and a diverse animal world, which together provide deep insights into the lives of the resourceful hunters and gatherers. Adventure areas for children, a life-size mammoth and a varied puzzle booklet make the exhibition an experience for young visitors too.
Hands-on exhibition for children
Children and their parents are invited to actively participate at a total of six stations. Which animals were hunted and how did people cook? Did colors exist in the Ice Age and how were they made? What do animal tracks and bone finds tell us? What did a camp look like and what kind of dwellings did people live in? And how long did it take to drill a hole in a bone flute? The topics of hunting, art, animals, dwellings and experimental archaeology are explored in a playful way. An exciting puzzle booklet also guides visitors through the exhibition.
The MAMUZ is an adventure museum and knowledge center for prehistory and historical archaeology. At two locations - MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya and MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach - there are topics to discover relating to 40,000 years of human history!
