Marktgemeinde Hoheneich

Historical sites

Description

The market town of Hoheneich with its idiosyncratic landscape, extensive coniferous forests, romantic ponds and interesting guest information offers a wonderful backdrop for health tourism.

"Actively enjoy nature"

The sports and recreation facilities include the natural swimming pond "Mitterteich", hiking trails, fishing for pike, carp, tench and trout, tennis on 2 outdoor clay courts, a 3-court tennis hall with sauna, steam bath and solarium, cycling excursions to the lovely villages in the surrounding area, bowling alleys and an asphalt curling track.

The townscape is dominated by the Marien pilgrimage church. There are reports of pilgrims as early as the 14th/15th century. The Gothic statue of "Mary with the Child", which dates back to this time, now forms the focal point of the high altar of the late Baroque/early Classicist Marien pilgrimage church (1776-1778).

Next to the church is a small Lourdes chapel, which is modeled on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
