Description

Rendezvous with umbrella pine and ground squirrel

The "Föhrenberge" is the name of the extensive forest area in the Vienna Woods, which stretches from Mödling to the southern edge of Vienna. The umbrella-shaped black pines ("Paraplui trees") are characteristic. They form the backdrop to the active Sparbach Nature Park. In the nature park, numerous hiking trails lead through pine and beech forests, over gentle hills and to mountain huts. The Perchtolsdorfer-Heide is also a special natural gem. The dry grassland area is a habitat for ground squirrels, among other things. The approx. 20 cm tall rodents are strictly protected.

Attractions: mountain huts, springs in Kaltenleutgeben, mountain bike trails, Liechtenstein Castle, Hussar Temple, nature tours

One of the special features of the black pine, apart from the resin extraction in earlier times, is certainly the fact that its wood does not "creak" and is therefore often used for theater stages.
