Pale stone
Mountain summit
Description
The 844 m high Blassenstein is considered Scheibbs' local mountain: the Urlingerwarte is a striking landmark of Scheibbs on its summit. The lookout point is built on the "naked" rock that gave the Blassenstein its "pale" name. The initially wooden Urlingerwarte was built in 1888, but was rebuilt in stone a few years later and reopened in 1903. Today, it is open to mountaineers from April to November - and offers magnificent views across the Alpine foothills to the Ötscher and the Gesäuse. Important: Take extra care due to the rocky outcrop - please do not let children run around and play alone.
The Blassenstein summit can be reached via several routes from Scheibbs. One option is to drive to the parking lot at the end of Blassensteinerstraße: from here, the short hike to Urlingerwarte only takes a quarter of an hour. As there are no refreshment stops during the hike, it is advisable to take plenty of provisions with you. Numerous restaurants await you in Scheibbs. Here you can also take a walk through the enchanting old town. Interesting guided tours tell of the heyday of the iron and provisions trade.
