Description

Parish church

The parish church of St. Martin is one of the oldest and largest churches in the region. Parts of the nave date back to Romanesque times, the choir was built in the Gothic period, while the tower was erected in the early 16th century. Pillichsdorf has been one of the ecclesiastical centers in the eastern Weinviertel since the Middle Ages and was the seat of a deanery until 1995.

Tower museum

The Pillichsdorf Tower Museum is a small but unusual museum in the 500-year-old church tower of the parish church of St. Martin. It was founded in 1984 and has included a second tower floor since 1987. Spiral staircases lead up to the two rooms, where over 130 exhibits are on display (areas: geology, prehistory and early history, Middle Ages, modern times)

Most important exhibits:

-reconstructed lunar idol from the Early Iron Age (Hallstatt period, approx. 650 BC)

-restored baroque clockwork from the year 1762

We would like to offer you an insight into the history of our immediate homeland - from prehistory and early history through the Middle Ages to modern times and also into the history of the Pillichsdorf deanery and our church building.

If you wish, you can also visit the belfry or take a guided tour of the church. Guided tours are possible at any time by appointment. Come and visit us, we look forward to seeing you! The meeting point is in front of the church tower.
