Schloss Rossatz
Castle
Description
Rossatz Castle is a Renaissance castle in the municipality of Rossatz-Arnsdorf in the district of Krems-Land in Lower Austria. It is a listed building. The castle is located on the church square. The three-storey, two-winged building is angled once on the street side and is strongly integrated into the remaining buildings on the church square. The exterior façade with regular window axes, partly painted as mock architecture, is dated 1582 and shows the remains of Renaissance decoration in the form of a sgraffito band.
The triangular inner courtyard is bordered by two wings in the shape of a hook. Both wings are the same length. The one on the north side has three-storey, but different arcades, which overlap the main wing with an arch. The main wing has a painted sundial on the courtyard side, which is dated 1600. This castle has been owned by the people of Rossatz in the form of a farming community since 1859.
