Description

The Ottenstein reservoir in the Waldviertel is a true paradise for nature and water lovers. Created in the 1950s, the 4.5 km² lake impresses with its fjord-like landscape and is one of the most beautiful excursion destinations in Lower Austria. Its wooded shores are perfect for hiking, cycling and walking, while numerous bays and sunbathing lawns offer ideal bathing spots.

If you want to explore the lake from the water, you can hire electric boats, pedal boats or rowing boats from the Seerestaurant Ottenstein or enjoy a relaxing lake cruise. The unique shape of the lake with its many arms makes for a particularly attractive natural experience.

Water sports fans will get their money's worth sailing, surfing or paddling, with Boats2Sail offering courses and equipment hire for beginners and advanced boaters. Anglers also appreciate the fish-rich reservoir with pike, carp, perch, pikeperch, tench and trout. Fishing licenses are available from the Ottenstein forestry office or the Niedernondorf estate and forestry operation.

The Ottenstein reservoir combines relaxation, nature experience and active vacation in a unique way and is worth a visit at any time of year, whether for swimming, boating or simply to enjoy the impressive Waldviertel landscape.
