Description
The cross-border Thayatal-Podyjí National Park offers visitors over 100 kilometers of hiking and cycling trails! Distinctive meanders and orbiting mountains of the Thaya characterize one of the last almost untouched valley landscapes in Central Europe. The valley surprises with impressive views and an abundance of animal and plant species. Many places along the hiking trails have retained their untouched and original character.
With a total of five hiking trails on the Austrian side of the river and a cross-border circular hiking trail, the national park offers hiking enthusiasts a natural paradise with impressive viewpoints over the hilly landscape traversed by the winding Thaya. Three of the six routes start directly at the National Park House and begin by passing through the "Wilderness Portal".
The National Park House near Hardegg is the first port of call, as visitors will find an information point, the "Nature Stories" exhibition, a store, a café-restaurant, a large adventure playground and Austria's largest wildcat enclosure, the main attraction.
