A COLORFUL MIX FROM NATURE
At 850 meters above sea level, right on the Nebelstein Adventure Trail, lies the Baldrian & Hackel studio. In this stone house, which is over 300 years old, illustrator and biologist Brigitte Baldrian works alongside graphic designer Harald Hackel on picture books, games, and fine stationery.
Here’s the thing: Conventional toys and picture books often travel halfway around the world before ending up in a child’s room. Brigitte Baldrian & Harald Hackel offer a regional, sustainable alternative. With their products, they open a window onto local nature and delight young and old alike with sturdy, timeless toys and stationery.
For over 15 years, the family-run workshop has been supplying over 200 retailers in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
While shipping and warehousing are handled in Weitra, the colorful studio—complete with a studio shop—is located in Obermaißen. Here, visitors can browse the entire product range—a glance at the tools and workbenches reveals the diversity of regional craftsmanship. With over 200 different greeting cards, calendars, wildlife castings, and a wide variety of art prints, the selection is appealing to adults as well.
