Just 50 minutes from Vienna, the Renner Museum of Contemporary History invites you on an exciting journey through time. In Dr. Karl Renner's former villa in Gloggnitz, the history of the 1st and 2nd Austrian Republic as well as formative historical events are presented in an easily understandable and authentic way. He was twice state founder, state chancellor and federal president of Austria.
In addition to changing special exhibitions , the permanent exhibitions provide fascinating insights into Austria's development - from a multi-ethnic state to the European Union. Renner's remarkable path from farmer's son to Federal President is also impressively illuminated. A free audio guide leads visitors through the 120-year-old, listed Renner Villa.
Just half an hour's drive away, it is also worth visiting the 1945 memorial room in Hochwolkersdorf. Here, history buffs can learn more about the final days of the Second World War and Dr. Renner's role in this decisive phase.
