In a dedicated campaign, farmers' wives and housewives have brought the village green of the Waldviertel village back to life. Together, they planted a herb garden with unusual ideas such as a rainbow or pharmacy corner, a mother-child garden, a sage patch or roast pork herbs in a raised bed. There is also a farmer's flower bed, a sunflower collection, different varieties of potatoes and much more.

In this way, the village green has once again become a center of communication in the village community. In addition to the horticultural activities, there is also a children's playground and the meadow is often the stage for parties and gatherings. "The meadow was also sown with typical wild herb mixtures. Today we have a fragrant herb, snack and flower meadow," says a delighted Roswitha Bigl, chairwoman of the "Merkenbrechts Herbal Village" association. But it's not just the village green that is home to a variety of herbs. The front gardens are also home to unusual plants such as the cough or protective herb garden - a walk through the village is well worth it!
