Waldreichs Castle showcases the many facets of falconry.
Thanks to the Austrian Falconers’ Association, falconry was designated a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Austria in 2010.
The falconers at the “Lower Austria Falconry & Bird of Prey Center” at Waldreichs Castle have made it their mission to bring this heritage to life. The facility was designed in accordance with the guidelines of the Austrian Animal Welfare Act and now showcases the many facets of falconry.
Free Flight of Birds of Prey:
Visitors enjoy watching the birds of prey take flight and listen to the presenters discuss their lives as predators within the ecosystem.
In free flight, the grace and elegance of the birds of prey are truly fascinating.
The “Free Flight of Birds of Prey” demonstrations take place at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., provided there is a minimum of 10 visitors.
July opening hours:
Tuesday–Friday, 2:00–5:00 p.m.
Saturday–Sunday and holidays, 10:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Flight demonstrations at 3:00 p.m. for groups of 10 or more (groups of fewer than 10 can watch a training flight)
Aviary Tour:
Here you can see all of our birds of prey.
This includes those that, for various reasons, do not participate in the flight demonstration.
Our feathered residents include: golden eagles, white-tailed eagles, imperial eagles, Steller’s sea eagles,
kara-karas, kites, various falcon species, blue harriers, Harris’s hawks, vultures, ....
Owl Park:
At the Owl Park, you can observe a wide variety of owl species and learn about their way of life. While strolling through this lovingly designed facility nestled in a wooded area, you can unwind from the stresses of everyday life and, at the same time, observe our owls in the pleasant tranquility of the shady forest.
/Information Center:
The Information Center offers a museum-style glimpse into the over 3,000-year-old history of falconry. A wide variety of exhibits tell the story of falconry, from its origins in the Asian steppes to the present day.
Golden Eagle Center & Falconry School:
The focus of the falconry work is on golden eagle breeding and subspecies research.
However, the Golden Eagle Center is located in Sankt Leonhard am Hornerwald and therefore cannot be visited during a tour of the Bird of Prey Center.
The Falconry School offers various seminars and courses on falconry at the Schloß Waldreichs Bird of Prey Center.
