Description
Around 1480, Caspar von Rogendorf had St. Gilgen's Church built near the castle as a castle and funeral church. During the Reformation, the two-aisled late Gothic hall church with a straight chancel served as a Protestant house of prayer.
In 1659, the church was opened to the public for Catholic worship in a solemn ceremony. After the parish church of St. Anna im Felde was abandoned, the castle church was elevated to parish church status in 1810, dedicated to St. Anna and given a neo-Gothic tower.
The church contains important works of late Gothic art: high altar with painted wings and a crucifixion group in the shrine, Mary with the child, "Anna Selbdritt" figure group, west gallery with secular paintings, wooden side galleries, alderman's chairs and more. There is a mighty fresco of St. Christopher on the southern outer wall.
