Description
Schrattenthal Castle is nestled in the rolling hills of the western Weinviertel - not far from Retz - at the foot of the Manhartsberg. The castle has been owned by the Schubert family for 90 years, who still live in it today. Schrattenthal Castle has been restored in recent years with tireless dedication and great attention to detail and is now a place of leisure, peace and harmony. The late Gothic castle church, the baroque granary and the medieval hunger tower with its dungeon are witnesses to those eras. The castle courtyard, castle park and wine cellar - no one can resist the excitement. The castle park is home to a 3.5-hectare lavender field with more than 60,000 plants. The blossom is particularly impressive in July, when the annual lavender festival takes place.
Schrattenthal Castle can be experienced in a very special way as part of a guided tour. Not only the history and the old walls of the castle are discovered, but also the life behind them. In addition to exciting insights into the past, visitors also learn how the castle is maintained today. A guided tour that combines history, nature and real country life - personal, authentic and with lots of little first-hand stories that you won't find in any travel guide.
Private events can also be organized in this impressive setting and anyone who would like to spend the night in a castle is welcome to book the castle's vacation apartment.
