Schloss Ulmerfeld

Ulmerfeld Castle was mainly the administrative center of the manor, but the building also had a representative and military function. Ulmerfeld Castle was repeatedly extended and rebuilt throughout its history. With its Gothic castle chapel, columned hall and fortified tower, it is a jewel of medieval architecture.

The imposing castle tower, the construction of which began at the end of the 12th century, can be seen from afar. The Gothic castle chapel with its murals dates back to the 14th century. Concerts and theater performances take place in the romantic arcaded courtyard in summer. The west wing houses exhibitions and a historical collection of weapons from the armourer Ernst Urschitz.

On the river" exhibition - Ulmerfeld-Hausmening Castle
The exhibition "By the river - the Ybbs as a lifeline and source of power" at Ulmerfeld Castle invites visitors to discover the Ybbs from new perspectives. From its source in the Ybbstal Alps to its mouth in the Danube, the Ybbs tells of natural areas full of life: of alluvial forests and gravel banks, of kingfishers and grayling, of the mysterious Forstheide with its ice-age soils. A separate level is dedicated to the scientifically proven effect of nature on our well-being - because if you stand on the banks of a river, you can feel it: This is where people can take a deep breath. At the same time, the exhibition shows the transformation of the region: from a former place of work for raftsmen and millers to today's local recreation area for cyclists, canoeists and nature lovers. Ulmerfeld Castle in the municipality of Amstetten provides the perfect setting for this journey along the Ybbs.
