A fisherman's paradise and a family destination for relaxing summer days...
Nestled in the rolling hills at the heart of the Waldviertel lies the approximately 2-kilometer-long, river-like Thurnberg Reservoir.
The Thurnberg Reservoir is the third and smallest of the three Kamp reservoirs and is surrounded by forests, rocks, and reeds between the towns of Krumau and Thurnberg—the latter of which gave the lake its name. Here, too, you’ll find ideal conditions for fishing , because just like the Ottensteiner and Dobra reservoirs, this lake is among the most fish-rich bodies of water in Austria. In many spots, especially in Krumau, you can fish right from the shore.
The Krumau am Kap recreation center is a true family paradise, featuring a separate swimming pond off the main lake, a spacious children’s playground, parking directly next to the sunbathing area, mini-golf, and tennis. At the campground in Krumau, you can also rent rowboats, pedal boats, electric boats, or canoes from April through October.
There are also various other recreational activities available around the lake. You can explore the surrounding area on the hiking and biking trails, and the Thurnberg Reservoir is also perfect for swimming—for example, the large sunbathing area near the dam, which is accessible at all times, is very popular.
