Description

The Hussar Temple impresses with its special neoclassical design by Joseph Kornhäusel.
The original building was completely destroyed in a Sturm in 1812 and was commissioned by Prince Johann I of Liechtenstein between 1809 and 1811 as a wooden structure.

The current Hussar Temple was erected in 1813 by Joseph Kornhäusel as a "Temple of War Glory". It is dedicated to the fallen of the Battle of Aspern and the tombs inside contain the bodies of five soldiers from this battle.

Another special feature is the wonderful view from the Hussar Temple over the Föhrenberge Nature Park.

The Hussar Temple is one of the 8 towers on the themed hike "The Towers of the Vienna Woods".
