In 1837, the industrialist Andreas Töpper had the first wooden bridge built here from the old town to his property on the left bank of the Erlauf. Storms and floods severely damaged the bridge over the years, so it was replaced by an iron construction in 1897. Without a central span and set slightly higher, it was flood-proof and no longer an obstacle for the wooden drift.
