Bernhardsthal train station

Train station

Description

Bernhardsthal station is located on the Northern Railway in the north-east of Lower Austria in the district of Mistelbach. A ticket machine has been installed in the waiting room of the reception building, and a publicly accessible toilet facility is also located in the station building. The two peripheral platforms are connected by an underpass.

More than 75 car parking spaces are located in the adjoining Park & Ride facility, making it easy to change to the train. Space has been created for 45 bicycles in the Bike & Ride facility.

Route connection

The Bernhardsthal border station is the terminus for many trains, as it is the last train stop in Austria. Only every few hours does a train continue to Lundenburg (Breclav) in the Czech Republic.

Regional trains from Vienna along the northern railway line to Vienna and Wr. Neustadt as well as to Breclav are served.
Buses to Mistelbach and Vienna connect at the bus stop directly at the station.

History of the station

The Northern Railway was built in the 1830s as the first steam railroad in the Austrian Empire. The Bernhardsthal stop on the double-track main line was provisionally opened in 1871 and was not officially integrated into rail traffic until 1877.

Bernhardsthal ponds

The Bernhardsthal landscape ponds were first mentioned in a document in 1458. This scenic oasis is just a 10-minute walk from Bernhardsthal train station and offers recreation seekers and nature lovers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the idyllic water at any time of year - be it with pedal boats and fishing piers in summer or ice skating and curling in winter.

The two ponds are separated by the Nordbahn brick bridge built in 1839, which is considered to be the oldest preserved structure in Austria's railroad history.
