Station Geras-Kottaun

Train station

Description

The quaint railroad station in the municipality of Geras-Kottaun is located in the northern Waldviertel and, with its corner ashlars, has the typical design of a nostalgic station building in Austria. The station building, which has a partial basement, was built in 1920 and is one of the 10 stations of the Reblaus Express, which opened in 2001 and offers nostalgic train rides along the well-preserved tracks of the former Nordwestbahn line.

After a short downhill section on the line through the forest, you reach the Geras-Kottaun stop after a final narrow curve.

It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the station to the impressive Geras Nature Park. With a petting zoo, various themed trails and the impressive Geras Abbey with its herb garden, this excursion destination is sure to satisfy every member of the family. A swimming and fishing pond with camping facilities allow nature lovers and adventurers to spend the night in their own tent. Alternatively, you can also indulge yourself in the historic Schüttkasten and Meierhof Geras - in the former granary and farmyard of Geras Abbey, both buildings were completely renovated between 2009 and 2010.

Thanks to the option of taking your bike on the Reblaus Express free of charge, it is also a good idea to enjoy the train ride to Geras-Kottaun, for example, with your bike in your luggage, and then cycle comfortably towards home and enjoy the landscapes you have just seen from the train up close on two wheels.
