Up the Rax by cable car

The fastest way of ascending the 1,500m to the Rax mountain station is with an 8-minute journey on the Rax-Seilbahn, the oldest cableway in Austria, which is now looking its best once again, following extensive renovation work which was completed in July 2016. From here, we guarantee a thrilling descent by ski-bike for adrenaline seekers. This concept of cycling on runners not only sounds exciting (it is indeed!), but is also very easy to get the hang of. The equipment can be hired from the Rax-Alm Berggasthof at the cableway station.

Many paths lead to the Rax

Probably the most beautiful and most charming was to ascend the Rax is by snow shoeing. The equipment for this can be hired from the Raxalpenhof. Guided tours can also be booked here. Route information: You can easily hike from the Preiner Gscheid Pass to the Waxriegelhaus hut, and reach the west side of the Rax.

Hiking up and sledding down

The ruckXbob tour is just as spectacular. You climb up on a scenic winter hike through the snow-covered landscape and then head back down through the deep powder on a ruckXbob, a combination backpack and sled. A must for adventurers.
