The market town of Hohenwarth-Mühlbach on the Manhartsberg has a very special character, situated in the beautiful transitional landscape from the Waldviertel to the Weinviertel, between the Manhartsberg, Schmidatal and Wagram. Gently rolling hills, lush greenery from the forests of the Manhartsberg and vineyards that produce excellent wines. Buschenschank (typical taverns), wine festivals with open cellar doors, wine tastings and wine culinary delights invite you to linger. The birthplace of dialect poet Joseph Misson (1803-1875) in Mühlbach is well worth a visit, with a mixture of historical collection, contemporary art and library, it shows the region's path through the centuries. The Romanesque church towering high above Hohenwarth, Mühlbach Castle with its revitalized Baroque garden and English landscape park and the "Hiata-Hut" in Ebersbrunn are further worthwhile Excursion destinations.
The well-marked trail leads from the Joseph Misson House in Mühlbach first up the Heidberg to the statue of St. Sigismund of Burgundy, dating from 1767. The trail continues over the Lenischberg and down into the Dienbach Valley, passing the village of Diendorf am Walde on its way to the Hahnkreuz northwest of Obernholz. Passing north of the Kugelberg, the trail then branches off to the left into the Wolfsgraben, leading past the three ponds and on to the Kamptalwarte at the Heiligenstein. This popular excursion destination celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1997. On nice days, enjoy the view of the Danube Valley and the Alpine foothills. Open on nice weekends and holidays; otherwise, keys are available at Ursinhaus and Gasthaus Hartl in Langenlois, Gasthäuser Gutmann and Jager in Zöbing, and Gasthaus Eisenbock in Straß. From the Kamptalwarte, you’ll hike through forests and vineyards down to Zöbing, where you can wrap up your hike at a wine tavern with a beautiful view of the Kamp Valley.
