Neulengbach Cultural Trail

This educational hike takes you on a scavenger hunt through the municipal area of Neulengbach, the young town in the Vienna Woods. Fourteen informative and visually appealing stations tell you about agriculture, tavern life, river regulation, rail and road traffic in the past and explain the history and origins of important buildings in the area, such as Baumgarten Castle, Neulengbach Monastery and Castle, the railroad viaduct and the Westautobahn highway. Numerous historical black and white photos illustrate the texts and make life in grandmother's and great-grandmother's time vivid, even for children. In the town center of Neulengbach, cafés and restaurants invite you to take a short break with food and drink. A museum about the life and work of the famous painter Egon Schiele and his time in Neulengbach has also been set up in the former district court, which is well worth a visit. Here you can find out what his arrest in 1912 was all about and visit the artist's former cell. Other sights include the early baroque parish church and the old town hall. Outside the town center, the culture trail leads away from busy roads and without major climbs through loosely built-up areas, along rivers, meadows and fields. Here you pass through the pilgrimage site of St. Christophen and the village of Raipoltenbach, with its 16th century castle ruins. Time and again, hikers are treated to views of the magnificent Burgberg and the nearby Buchberg.

Route description
The starting point is located south of Emmersdorf, next to the bridge over the Große Tulln. From here, head south. Cross the Anzbach and turn onto Ulmenhofstraße. At the next intersection (Station 2), turn right and take the stairs up to Kirchenplatz. Continue straight ahead, past Station 3, until you reach Station 4. The tour then leads across Neulengbach’s modern main square, which offers numerous places to stop for refreshments, to Station 5. At the end of Rathausplatz, turn right and walk down Bahnstraße. At the end of the street, you’ll find Station 6 on the bike path next to the Laabenbach, under the railroad viaduct. Now walk upstream along the stream until you reach Station 7. Continue along this path. You’ll leave Neulengbach and, after about 2 km, reach the pilgrimage site of St. Christophen. Here, switch to the road and cross the Laabenbach from there to reach Station 8. After that, return to the bike path and continue upstream along the Laabenbach. A wooden bridge then leads to the other bank. A few meters further on, turn right onto Hinterbergstraße. Now walk along the country road. The route passes through the villages of Hart, Ludmerfeld, and Kalkgrub, where you keep right at the intersection to cross the road and reach Station 9. Here, a small bridge takes you over the highway on-ramp, through the village of Theißl, to an intersection. Turn left here and walk down Kirchenstraße to Station 10. Continue downhill, cross the main road, and walk along Bahnstraße to the Ollersbach train station. After crossing the tracks, turn right at the next intersection to reach Station 11. From there, walk through Wolfersdorf to Umsee. At Umsseer Straße, turn right, then shortly afterward turn left onto a paved farm road, passing through the village of Weidling, and continue to Obereichen to reach Station 12. Turn right onto the country road and walk downhill, then turn left twice to reach Raipoltenbach via another paved farm road. At the end of the path, turn right, then left twice, and then right once to reach the main road. Station 13 is located behind the stream. Leave the village by turning right onto Herbstgrabenstraße. At Herbstgraben, turn right and follow another farm road uphill. This will take you to the final station. You can return to the starting point via Innprugg.
