This cross-border road bike tour from Schweiggers to Třeboň is a challenging day trip through the Waldviertel granite highlands to the flat, pond-rich South Bohemia. The route connects historic towns such as Weitra, Nové Hrady and Gmünd with the UNESCO Třeboňsko Biosphere Reserve, with undulating to flat terrain on mostly low-traffic side roads. There are many sights and places to stop for refreshments in the charming old towns. The tour is predominantly flat with a distance of approx. 110 km without long climbs (approx. 850 m elevation gain).
When choosing your route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Bring your cell phone, bike computer, or maps for navigation. For cross-border tours, always carry your passport or ID card.
Ride with focus and anticipate hazards on narrow roads and farm roads, as you can expect oncoming traffic (from farm machinery) or wildlife crossing the road (especially in forests and fields) at any time. Maintain sufficient distance within the group to avoid pileups during braking maneuvers.
