Circular hiking trail in Sallingstadt
Circular hiking trail in Sallingstadt
Schweiggers lies at the source of the Thaya river and is a great place to discover nature and culture. The poet Robert Hamerling once raved about the village and its surroundings and drew a mythological sketch of the landscape. You too can discover and hike through many new things at the numerous adventure stations of the "Places of Power": Thaya spring, lawn labyrinth, watershed, Meridian stone, "Moata" pilgrimage site, millennium tower of life, Bernhard oasis in Walterschlag. Also worth seeing are the idyllic market square, the three parish churches, the municipal museum and the potato museum.
When choosing your route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants and cafes you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your fully charged cell phone and maps in your backpack. For cross-border trips, please always carry a passport or ID card with you.
Sturdy shoes, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, trekking poles if needed, first-aid kit (blister bandages), and plenty of food (snacks, granola bars, fruit, water).
Water is arguably humanity’s most precious resource of all. The origin of life on Earth lies in water. That is reason enough to explore the significance of water in various ways. Along the hiking trail, theoretical concepts are brought to life through practical examples. You’ll be accompanied by small streams as well as numerous ponds that were created as early as the 13th and 14th centuries by monks and Bohemian pond farmers. From the village inn, you’ll walk to the parish church in Sallingstadt and from there continue slightly uphill along the farm road toward Perndorf.
From a hilltop, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the area around Schweiggers. Here, follow the signs to the left, take a leisurely hike through the Schachenwald forest, and cross the road at the wayside shrine. Continuing through the forest, you’ll reach the Ritzmannshof, which is surrounded by three ponds that are even protected as nature reserves. About halfway along the route, you’ll reach Teichhäuser, home to the “Wirtshaus zur Minidampfbahn” adventure park, which is also located next to a pond. After a hearty meal, you’ll hike back through the Ritzmannshofer Forest to Sallingstadt.
