If you walk along the 1st Lower Austrian dowsing trail, which is probably unique in Austria with 57 marked and described stations, the high forest that surrounds Großschönau opens up.
When choosing a route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your cell phone and maps in your backpack.
Sturdy footwear, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, trekking poles (if needed), first-aid kit (blister bandages), plenty of food and snacks (snacks, granola bars, fruit, water)
The trail, which is ten kilometers long in total, begins right at the BETZ (Bioenergetic Training Center), leads over the Kreuzberg to the Johannesberg and the Johannesberg Church, turns there, and continues past the “Kleine Steinerne Stube” to the “Große Steinerne Stube,” passing the deep borehole at the “divining rod practice area” and across the market square to the church, which serves as the final stop on the Divining Rod Trail and marks its highlight.
The trail can be walked in three to four hours. However, for all 50 marked and well-trodden stops, you should plan to spend several times that amount of time.
Parking is available at BETZ.
