The start and end of the circular hiking trail is at the Hengsthütte. You can reach the Hengsthütte with the Schneebergbahn, which operates daily at this time. The circular hike starts between the Hengsthütte and the Schneebergbahn stop along the old "Hengstweg" following the red and then the blue markings in the direction of the Ternitzerhütte. Once you reach the Ternitzerhütte, the hiking trail leads directly opposite through a small wood to the Kaltwassersattel, then left again to the Baumgartner stop. Depending on the snow conditions, the walk takes at least 1 hour and 30 minutes. We also recommend snowshoes, which you can hire at the Schneebergbahn valley station if the snow conditions require it. The Advent circular hiking trail is not a cleared winter hiking trail.
At the Baumgartner stop, head back in the same direction as you came. At the Kaltwassersattel, the path then leads straight ahead and along the green "Oberer" Hengstweg markings back to the Hengsthütte. The walking time is - again depending on the snow conditions - approx. 1 hour.

The hike takes place at altitudes ranging from 1,000 m to 1,400 m above sea level in December! Please be aware of twilight times (around 4:00 p.m.), as well as weather and snow conditions.
High-top hiking boots, possibly gaiters and hiking poles (depending on snow conditions), as well as a warm jacket, a hat, and gloves.
The loop hike begins between the Hengsthütte and the Schneebergbahn train stop, following the “old” Hengstweg and then the red and subsequently the blue trail markers toward the Ternitzerhütte. Once you reach the Ternitzerhütte, the trail leads straight across through a small grove to the Kaltwassersattel, then turns left again toward the Baumgartner stop. Depending on snow conditions, the hike takes approximately at least 1 hour and 30 minutes. We also recommend snowshoes, which you can rent at the Schneebergbahn valley station if snow conditions require them. The Advent Circular Hiking Trail is not a plowed winter hiking trail.
At the Baumgartner stop, head back in the same direction you came from. At the Kaltwassersattel, the trail then continues straight ahead and follows the green “Oberer” Hengstweg markings back to the Hengsthütte. The walking time is—again, depending on snow conditions—about 1 hour.
Of course, you also have the option of taking the Schnebeergbahn to the Baumgartner stop and walking only one leg of the hike to the Hengsthütte.
