Standard Hiking Gear

From the parking lot, walk along Hernsteinerstraße past the cemetery and continue straight ahead onto Talleitengasse (toward “Sportschule”). Follow this path; it starts with a short, steep climb, then levels off as it curves sharply to the left, and finally climbs again until you reach the Lindabrunn Sports School. Continue straight ahead uphill on the road past the sports school and parking lot; the road soon turns into a gravel forest road and you’ll reach a crossroads. Here, turn right onto the forest road and head uphill (wooden signpost from the FVV Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn, Routes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7); the path is steeper at first but soon levels off. At an elevation of 411 m, you’ll reach a clearing with a meadow, a rest area, the Hubertus Chapel, a pond, and the Zwillingsführe natural monument. At the fork in the path before the meadow, continue straight ahead (slightly to the left) and follow the forest road as it climbs uphill until it levels off. Here, at the 454-meter point (450 meters past the chapel), the hiking trail continues straight ahead into the forest toward Henninger (a dirt forest trail), while the forest road branches off to the right. Here, continue straight ahead on this dirt forest trail, which leads gently uphill for 1.7 km through the forest to the Henninger trail junction (Elev. 485 m). Here, trails from four directions converge: from Steinabrückl (231), Piesting (231), Aigen, and Lindabrunn. Here, take the forest road to the right toward Aigen (sign: Aigen 45 min, red trail marker, some signs FVV No. 4) and hike on level ground, continuing straight ahead toward WNW through the pine forests of “Auf dem Hart.” After 1.8 km, you reach the edge of the forest (elevation 496 m); from here, a dirt road continues straight ahead across the open plateau to the “Stadtkreuz” chapel, which you’ll reach after 650 m. Rest area and view of the Hohe Wand, Schneeberg, Rosenkogel, and Lindenberg. Follow the road to the right toward Aigen; after 750 m, you’ll reach the intersection with Lindabrunnerstraße. Here, a little more than halfway through the hike, you can stop for a break at the Penninger Inn.

Then turn onto Lindabrunnerstraße toward Lindabrunn and Enzesfeld, and follow the road for 500 m, following the blue trail markers to the “Hinteraigen” chapel. Continue on the state road (sign: Gr. Jauling, St. Veit, blue), walk along the roadside for 600 m toward the edge of the forest, then along the edge of the forest until, after another 200 m, the trail branches off to the left into the forest (blue markings). This path leads slightly downhill, past the “St. Veiter Blinden Kreuz,” narrowing as it goes until it reaches a forest road. Cross this road and follow the forest path (blue) downhill until you reach the turnoff to the “Lindabrunner Blinden Kreuz.” Several forest trails and roads converge here; leave the blue trail (which continues toward the “Saurer Kreuz”) and keep right onto a forest road, following the wooden sign for the “Lindabrunner Blindenkreuz.” After 500 m on the flat forest road, you’ll reach the “Lindabrunner Blindenkreuz” at the edge of the state highway. Here, keep to the left (east) along the edge of the road and follow the road for 500 m. (Note: The trail marked on the ÖK map, which turns left into the forest after just 250 m, is completely overgrown and almost impassable.) This brings you to a forest clearing that leads left into the woods (sign: “Bahnhof Hirtenberg, Abzweigung Lindabrunn,” marked in red). After 200 m, you’ll rejoin the original path, which you’ll now follow downhill to the right, initially through a small ravine (red). Passing a meadow, all the way downhill, you’ll reach Golfstraße. Follow this road to the right (sign: Hirtenberg, Enzesfeld (red then yellow)) for 250 m until you reach a forest road crossing. Turn right here and follow the unmarked forest road for 500 m. At a trail junction (at the edge of the recreation center grounds, wooden fence), you’ll come across the yellow trail marker; follow it to the right downhill along the forest road. Here, at the bottom of the valley, you’ll reach an asphalt road (near stone sculptures and a small water basin); follow it to the left, heading out of the valley. This will take you to the first houses; follow the quarry road to the intersection with Hernsteinerstraße. Turn left down a narrow alley (Steinkamperl) and follow Lindengasse to the right back to the starting point.

Take the A2 South Highway, exit at Leobersdorf, head toward Enzesfeld, turn right onto Fabrikstraße, turn left over the railroad crossing, and follow Wiener Neustädterstraße. After 800 m, turn right onto Hernsteinerstraße and continue through Lindabrunn until just before the fountain.
