Hiking tour Starting from Burg Schlaining Hiking Trailhead
With two stages, the 2-castle tour is the beginner's tour in the alpannonia® long-distance hiking network and connects Schlaining Castle with Lockenhaus Castle via the 848 m high Geschriebenstein. The stages are challenging, but the highlights along the route make it an absolute hiking experience.

The highlight of the 2-day tour is the 884 m high border tower on the Geschriebenstein, on the main stage from Stadtschlaining to Lockenhaus. The tour is also exciting for those interested in culture and invites you to visit the exhibitions at the castles and palaces along the route.On the two stages, you hike through the Günser Gebirge on nature trails, mostly through wooded areas with wonderful panoramic sections.

The route starts and follows the Alpannonia feeder trail Schlaining-Schönau-Hirschenstein (yellow trail markers)
From the Hirschenstein transmitter, follow the Alpannonia main route (red trail markers) to the pass summit
From the pass summit (parking lot/crossing of Federal Highway B56), walk approx. 900 m to the WW 07 junction (red/yellow) and then downhill to Lockenhaus
Tip: From the pass summit (parking lot), walk about 1.8 km to the Geschriebenstein Tower (border) and then about 900 m back to the trail 07 junction toward Lockenhaus

Section a) Lockenhaus to Weißenbachl following the “Geschriebenstein-Roas” trail (blue markings/icon)
Section b) Weißenbachl to Oberkohlstätten on the Unterkohlstätten Circular Hiking Trail No. 1
Section c) Oberkohlstätten to Goberling on the alpannonia Main Route (red markings)
Section d) Goberling to Schlaining on the alpannonia Feeder Trail (yellow markings)
There is plenty of parking available in Stadtschlaining. Guests staying overnight at the Burghotel Schlaining have access to dedicated parking spaces.
Before or after the tour, visit the anniversary exhibition at Friedensburg Schlaining.
