With the 862 m high Hirschenstein and the highest point in Burgenland, the 884 m high border tower on the Geschriebenstein, this royal stage from Stadtschlaining to Lockenhaus is only for real long-distance hikers. The tour is also exciting for those interested in culture and invites you to visit the exhibitions of the castles and palaces along the route. On the 3 stages, you hike through the entire Günser Gebirge on nature trails through forest and wine-growing areas with magnificent panoramic sections.
Since this is a high-altitude trail with panoramic views and the hike takes place mostly on nature trails, we recommend bringing a small snack pack for the day (drinks, snacks)!
Mostly on nature trails; the section from Lockenhaus to Bernstein runs partly along the B58 bike path and farm roads.

Stage from Stadtschlaining to Lockenhaus
Section a) Stadtschlaining to Hirschenstein on the Alpannonia feeder trail (yellow markings)
Section b) Hirschenstein to the Geschriebenstein pass summit on the Alpannonia main trail (red markings)
Section c) From the pass summit/parking lot, follow the Alpannonia Main Trail for about 900, then turn left and follow the WW 07 trail marker (red/yellow) to Lockenhaus
Stage: Lockenhaus to Bernstein
Section a) From Lockenhaus to Weißenbachl following the “Geschriebenstein-Roas” trail (blue trail markers/icon)
Section b) From Weißenbachl to Holzschlag on the Unterkohlstätten Circular Hiking Trail No. 1
Section c) Holzschlag to the L364/B50 intersection, approx. 1.8 km on Road L364
Section d) L364/B50 intersection to the farm road, 4.5 km via Langau and Oberhasel to Bernstein
Stage from Bernstein to Stadtschlaining:
Section a) From Bernstein to Goberling on the main Alpannonia route (red trail markers)
Section b) From Goberling to Stadtschlaining on the Alpannonia feeder route (yellow trail markers)
