Description
This regional route takes us from the Kirchschlag castle ruins through the Bucklige Welt. Through a ditch with a steep cart track, but also along forest and meadow paths, we come to the Niklasberg, past a natural monument in Ungerbach, back up to Habichl and finally to the main trail on the Kalteneckberg.
This variant also makes for a wonderful day hike with many views if you continue the hike to Hochneukirchen (Hutwisch viewing point) or in the other direction to Bernstein (viewing hill near Redlschlag).
- Equipment Hiking equipment: sturdy footwear, clothing according to weather conditionsDon't forget provisions!
- Route description In Kirchschlag there are three paths up to the castle ruins, all marked with the yellow-white alpannonia marking and leading away from the main road. Next to the Gasthof Hönigwirt (Hotel Post) is the alpannonia information board, which is the official starting point of this route. We follow the path up to the castle ruins and pass through the site. At the castle gate, we find the first markings and at a fork in the path, we take the forest road on the left uphill. After walking quite gently through the forest for some time, the path becomes quite steep after a right-hand turn and we march along a cart track through a ravine. Upon reaching open terrain, we can now comfortably follow field and meadow paths. We soon reach the Sechterleiten snack station near Niklasberg and follow the asphalt path a bit towards Ungerbach (turn right). Passing a farmstead, we continue over meadows to the tree natural monument at the village entrance. Here we walk on the asphalt strip to the state road, follow it uphill to the left, and after the hairpin bend, leave it to the right uphill to a farmstead. At the manure heap, we leave the paved road to the left and go uphill between fields and meadows to Habichl and reach the alpannonia main path shortly before Kalteneckberg.
