Description
The hike begins at the Romanesque round church in Scheiblingkirchen (370 m) and leads through the Höllgraben to Witzelsberg to the Heimkehrerkreuz. The trail continues through the forest to the Rehgartl cross, over the Hartberg to the Hubertus chapel and down to Gleißenfeld to the Türkensturz. From there, the trail climbs steeply via the Sollgrabenalm to Weingart and on to Thernberg. The tour ends in Scheiblingkirchen.
Archduke Johann, who gave his name to the hike, acquired Thernberg Castle in 1807 and promoted the region. Finally, the route offers an art exhibition with sculptures between Thernberg and Scheiblingkirchen.
- Equipment Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes appropriate for the route, bring sun and rain protection as well as water and a small snack. Take your mobile phone and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140
- Route description The hike starts at the church in the center of Scheiblingkirchen. Turn left onto the main road towards the station and turn right at Reisenbauer, then left under the motorway bridge. Follow the road through the Höllgraben to Witzelsberg, turn left there and after about one kilometer turn left onto the path leading to the Rehgartlkreuz (481 m). From there, continue right along the path to Hartberg (510 m) and straight ahead to the road, which is followed for about one kilometer. Turn right to the Hubertus Chapel and from there down to Gleißenfeld. Follow the road through the village to the foot of the Türkensturz. At the first wooden arrow, turn left uphill towards Sollgraben; the steep climb leads to the Türkensturz. Descend via the Sollgrabenalm to Weingart and via Neustift to Thernberg. In Thernberg, turn right after the Erzherzog Johann documentation, get onto the hiking trail and go straight through Innerschildgraben back to Scheiblingkirchen.
