Description
This circular hike, which starts at theGuglzipf forest hutnot only provides exciting information about the forest, but also offers the different types of forest (from beech forest to black pine forest) and some viewpoints along the way. After returning to Berndorf, we recommend a visit to the Krupp City Museumthe Margaret Church Berndorf or theBerndorf style classes.
The main town in the Triestingtal valley, the municipality of Berndorf, is nestled in hills covered in black pine forests in the Triestingtal valley. The town is known nationwide for its historical development, which is closely linked to the Krupp family. Traces of this period can be seen everywhere in the town. For example, the workers' housing estates, villas, schools and factory buildings bear witness to this period. The museum in Bahnstraße is therefore also dedicated to this era.
The style classes of the schools in Berndorf, which are designed in twelve different architectural styles, are among the world's most unique art venues of their kind. The Berndorf municipal theater and the Margarethenkirche church also contribute to the town's rich cultural offering.
For hikers, there are many varied hiking options starting from the town, ranging from short, educational hikes (Berndorf Guglzipf forest nature trail) to long, extended hikes (for example:Classic trail to the Waxeneckhaus). However, a special highlight of every visit to Berndorf is always the ascent the Jubiläumswarte on the Guglzipf with its all-round panorama.
- Equipment Hiking shoes, drinks, rain protection (for safety)
- Route description At the intersection Bahnhofstraße/Alleegasse you can already see an information board where the entire path is depicted along with additional information. Shortly after this board, you can see the "entry board" where the path starts steeper, rocky, and root-covered. After some switchbacks, the incline decreases slightly and continues on a pleasant path to the log cabin. Shortly before the log cabin, there is a sharp right turn leading us to the forest hut at Guglzipf. After the break at the forest hut, continue on Forsstraße and shortly thereafter turn left onto the forest path. It goes slightly downhill but still flat towards the log cabin, where several paths meet. Here, we keep far left and follow the path downhill towards the railway. At the end, we pass another "entry board" and take an asphalted path that leads back to the starting point. Along the way, we can orient ourselves by the white/red/white marking.
- Parking Parking spaces in Bahnhofstraße (Attention, short-term parking zone!!) or at the end of Bahnhofstraße there is a small parking lot on the right (no short-term parking zone)
- Getting there A2 South Motorway exit Leobersdorf, on the Hainfelder federal road B 18 to Berndorf, turn right onto Hernsteinerstraße towards Hernstein, immediately after the railway turn left into BahnhofstraßePublic transport: to Berndorf station
- Editor’s tip The forest educational trail can be explored in both directions. Before reaching the Guglzipf forest hut, there is also the option to take a short break in a log cabin in the middle of the forest.
