Biriweg

The trail follows Trail W1 up to a T-intersection past the Jägermarterl. Where Trail W1 turns left toward the east, you turn right here and zigzag through the forest toward Purgstall. You’ll pass through the village and cross the Steinhölzlbach stream, then turn left onto a dirt road and follow it to Nonnersdorf. After passing through the village, turn left, and you’ll soon see the pilgrimage church of Maria im Gebirge—the “Biri Church”. To tour the church, you can ask the sacristan across the street for the key. The “Biri-Bründl” is also a great spot to cool off. Afterward, walk past the church through the forest toward the east, past the ruins of the Holzmühle, to Heinrichsdorf. In the village, walk along the main street and, just before the end of the village, turn left again onto a dirt road. Follow this road across the fields to Prutzendorf. Here, head toward the chapel, but don’t cross the stream; instead, follow it along the right bank. This takes you around the west side of the Prutzenberg, and at a cross, you’ll rejoin the road to Weitersfeld. Turn right onto this road and follow it to the main square.
