Hiking tour Starting from St. John's Chapel in Münichreith
Around the Ostrong, the highest elevation in the region (Peilstein 1061 m), lies the dual municipality with the main towns of Münichreith and Laimbach on the watershed between the Ysper and Weitental valleys. Worth seeing: parish gallery and church of St. Nicholas in Münichreith and St. Margaret in Laimbach.
From the starting point, walk along the country road past the elementary school and the forester’s lodge toward Altwaldhäusl for about 1 km. You’ll come to a junction. At the fork in the trail, continue straight ahead uphill, passing a feeding hut and the Ysperbrunnen until you reach the Birkenkreuz, here, turn left uphill; after about 300 m, you can take a detour to the Katzenstein (to the right), then return and continue straight ahead; at the next fork, turn left toward the Kl. Peilstein – summit cross.
A1, Ybbs exit – Persenbeug Danube Bridge – take the B 3 toward Vienna to Marbach an der Donau – turn left here toward Maria Taferl and continue to Münichreith.
