Hiking tour Starting from Kirchbach, near the rectory
When choosing your route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants and cafes you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your fully charged cell phone and maps in your backpack. For cross-border trips, please always carry a passport or ID card with you.
Sturdy shoes, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, trekking poles if needed, first-aid kit (blister bandages), and plenty of food (snacks, granola bars, fruit, water).
After looking back toward Kirchbach, you’ll head south through the green hills of the “Himmelreich” down into “Paradies.” Hiking uphill from the Kamp Valley ("Kamptal" in German), you’ll pass through a diverse high-altitude forest. By taking the short side trail, you’ll reach the “Stone Arch” and Burgleiten, where you’ll be treated to a fantastic view. From here on, you’ll walk along flat trails through Riebeis down into the valley, past a sawmill, the ski lift, and the Brettersäge open-air museum, before returning to Kirchbach.
Coming from St. Pölten or Vienna via the A1 and S33 or the A22 and S5 to Krems, take the B38 here and continue to Zwettl. In Zwettl, continue toward Linz until you reach Merzenstein; after the town sign, turn left and continue to Rappottenstein.
Coming from the west, take the A1 to Linz, then the A7 to Unterweitersdorf, and finally the B124 to Rappottenstein. Alternatively, from Unterweitersdorf via Freistadt, turn right just before Merzenstein and continue to Rappottenstein.
