Hiking tour Starting from
The Thaya Valley is a rich landscape with rugged rocky outcrops and gentle meadows, with a varied forest and farmland landscape. The town of Drosendorf lies on a rocky spur and below it the Thaya winds its way around the mountain. It is a well-protected site on which the Counts of Pernegg had a fortified market settlement built around 1170 and 1200. However, the ring of walls was built in the 13th century. The town wall has been preserved in its entire length and can be walked around on the summer and winter promenade. The castle was built where the road leads into Drosendorf and was converted into a palace in 1694. The main square is surrounded by beautiful town houses, such as the Regentenhaus, which was the winter residence of the abbots of Geras until 1666, or the Bergamtshaus next to the town hall, which belonged to the director of an alum mine. Down by the Thaya lies the old town of Drosendorf, an idyllic garden settlement. The pre-medieval village was located on the river, which is why the settlement in the lowlands was called the "old site" when it moved up the hill. The Peter and Paul Church in the old town was mentioned as a parish church as early as 1153. The Gothic sacrament house from 1515 is remarkable.
