Hiking tour Starting from Rappottenstein, Main Square
When choosing your route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants and cafes you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your fully charged cell phone and maps in your backpack. For cross-border trips, please always carry a passport or ID card with you.
Sturdy shoes, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, trekking poles if needed, first-aid kit (blister bandages), and plenty of food (snacks, granola bars, fruit, water).
From Rappottenstein, walk along Kaiserallee and down Antoniberg to the Kleiner Kamp. Cross the Kleiner Kamp via the Schlosssteg and hike along the Kleiner Kamp to the Ödmühle and through the Schütt (natural monument). The trail continues past the Wiesmühle to the impressive Lohnbachfall (natural monument) and on to Pretrobruck (where you can stop for a break). Refreshed, you’ll visit the Höllfall and the Zeller Marterl. The trail leads you back via Arnreith, the Hausmühle, and Feuranz to the Heumühle. You’ll now hike through “Paradies” along the Großer Kamp. Cross the Kamp Bridge to the other side of the river and walk downstream to the end of the forest trail. After a short climb, you’ll reach a dirt road leading to Grünbach and then return along the state highway to the starting point in Rappottenstein.
Coming from St. Pölten or Vienna via the A1 and S33 or the A22 and S5 to Krems, take the B38 here and continue to Zwettl. In Zwettl, continue toward Linz until you reach Merzenstein; after the town sign, turn left and continue to Rappottenstein.
Coming from the west, take the A1 to Linz, then the A7 to Unterweitersdorf, and finally the B124 to Rappottenstein. Alternatively, from Unterweitersdorf via Freistadt, turn right just before Merzenstein and continue to Rappottenstein.
