Hiking tour Starting from Steyersberger Schwaig
The Three Huts Schwaigen Tour leads from the Steyersberger Schwaig to the rustic Feistritzer Schwaig and Kranichberger Schwaig huts.
The Three Huts Schwaigen Tour leads from the Steyersberger Schwaig to the rustic Feistritzer Schwaig and Kranichberger Schwaig huts.
From the Steyersberger Schwaig, the route climbs up to the Arabichl at 1595m, from where there is a wonderful panoramic view. The route then continues to the Feistritzer Schwaig. Here you can experience the alpine idyll of the Schwaigen am Wechsel in the truest sense of the word. Hospitality and coziness invite you to linger. For refreshments, there is home cooking in the parlor, in the sheltered arbor or on the terrace with a view of the Hochwechsel.
Continue to the Kranichberger Schwaig. From there you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Rax and Schneeberg. The hut is open from May to September and offers organic snacks and home-smoked bacon, for example.
The hike does not require an above-average level of fitness and is therefore also suitable for families. However, there are numerous hiking trails leading to and from the Kranichberger Schwaig, e.g. you can also reach the hut via the Feistritzsattel. This route is on the stage of the trail along the Wiener Alpenbogen - Arc of the Viennese Alps (trail) from Mönichkirchen to the Feistritzsattel. Another trail starts from Kirchberg am Wechsel on a regional route of the Wiener Alpenbogen - Arc of the Viennese Alps (trail) trail.
We want your hikes in the Vienna Alps to be an enjoyable and safe experience in every way. Therefore, please note the following:
Preparation
When choosing a route, make sure it matches your experience and fitness level. Check the weather forecast in advance. The weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Therefore, always set out with the appropriate gear (e.g., rain gear).
Check to see if the huts and snack bars you plan to visit along the way are open. Let someone know your route and your planned return time before you set out.
Always bring appropriate maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes suitable for the hike, and bring sunscreen, rain gear, water, and a light snack. Bring your cell phone and save the mountain rescue emergency number: 140
We start the hike at the Steyersberger Schwaig and follow the trail. After just under two kilometers, we continue to the right at the fork in the trail. We turn right and arrive at the Schwarzen Herrgott. Here we enjoy the view. Then we turn left and head up to the Feistritzer Schwaig. After that, we turn right and follow the hiking trail over the Arabichl. We reach the highest point of the hike and are rewarded with magnificent views. We stay on the left side of the trail. After about one kilometer, the trail curves to the right. After about 500 meters, we reach the Kranichberger Schwaig. We continue along the trail and descend back to the starting point of the hike, the Steyersberger Schwaig.
