Description
Where according to legend druids once held priestly assemblies, a mystical force can still be felt today. The approximately 8 km long Druid Path leads along Celtic paths and past mysterious power places inviting you to recharge your energy. The last section of the path holds some surprises: The path leads through a natural forest in its original form - a true rarity these days - up to the viewpoint Kaltenberg Cross. From there, the Southern Waldviertel literally lies at your feet. Opposite, the Peilstein shows itself from its most beautiful side. You should allow about four hours to fully enjoy the entire beauty of nature that awaits hikers on this circular route. We especially recommend this hike also for families with children who enjoy going on discovery tours.
- safety instructions Make sure when choosing the route that it fits your fitness level. Check if the catering establishments you want to visit are open. Pack your mobile phone and map material in your backpack.
- Equipment Sturdy footwear, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, map material, if necessary telescopic poles, first aid kit (blister plasters), sufficient provisions (snack, muesli bars, fruit, water)
- Route description The hike begins with the wild and romantic Ysperklamm. Over a length of two kilometers, the Große Ysper overcomes 300 meters of altitude. At the top lies the former "Ödteich", now a spruce forest. Continue a bit half-right flat to the so-called Kaiserreith (spring). After a small ascent, you reach the first cult site, the rock formation "Phallus with Vulva" with a cup-marked stone. Then to the "Sitting Dog" (short side path right), followed by the "Standing Bowl", the "Outer Stone Circle" and the "Inner Stone Circle" (Druids meeting place). The path then leads to the "Large Bowl" and the "Residential Cave". Next stop "Sphinx", then on to the "Böndel". Here 13 cup-marked stones are arranged in a circle. On the other side of the mountain, a bit downhill, then turn right through the high forest on the side path to the "Kaltenberg Cross" (walking time approx. 10 minutes). Wonderful viewpoint directly above Pisching. Back on the side path, descent to Siebendürfting. From the foot of Kaltenberg along the country road back to the starting point.
