Description
A varied hike along vineyards and through hollow paths with wonderful views over the village and the region.
The Ehret den Sock hiking trail in the quaint village of Herrnbaumgarten is very varied. It leads through beautiful sunken paths as well as along vineyards. Over a distance of almost 7 km, you will experience both shady sections in the middle of nature and wonderful views of the village as far as the ruins of Falkenstein Castle or across the border to Mikulov. There are various opportunities for a short picnic. And don't forget: There are several opportunities along the route to hang up the single socks you have brought with you.
- safety instructions The hiking trail mostly runs over field paths. It can get a bit muddy here in rainy weather. About halfway, the Poysbrunner state road must be crossed.
- Equipment Sturdy footwear is recommended.
- Route description The path was newly equipped in 2021 with Ehret den Sock arrows, which are located at every relevant bend. From the parking lot of the Nonseum/Fire Department (Poysbrunner Straße 9), walk along Büglgasse towards Schindergasse. There you cross the street towards Wagnergasse and shortly after you are already outside the town. You come to a small sock vineyard, which you pass on the left. If you follow the path, you reach the first of the three hollow paths, which also marks the beginning of the steepest section. Through the hollow path, you come to a small clearing where you follow the arrow to the left at the fork. After a few minutes, you reach the large sock vineyard. A little further is the Steinberg Chapel. You follow the path along the vineyards and come to the Agrarstraße, the so-called Flugfeldstraße. Here you turn right until you reach Poysbrunner Straße (L22). Tip: On the right is the demonstration vineyard, a wonderful rest area that also offers interesting information about Austrian grape varieties. After crossing Poysbrunner Straße, you have a wonderful view over Herrnbaumgarten, and in good weather, you can even see as far as the Carpathians. After a short hike, you come to the next hollow path that ends at the Antonius Chapel. At the end of the hollow path, turn right along the field path until you see the next hollow path after 200 m. Here there is the possibility to go outside along the vineyards. The paths join again at the end near an industrial hall. You turn right and march back towards the town. After a few minutes, you reach one of the beautiful cellar lanes of Herrnbaumgarten, which leads you back to Poysbrunner Straße.
