Ein Tal am Rad

The “Ein Tal am Rad” bike route starts in Seefeld-Kadolz and takes you through the Mitterfeld region, across the border into the Czech Republic, and on to Jaroslavice (Joslowitz). From there, you’ll cycle past Moravia’s third-largest fishing pond to Slup (Zulb), where you’ll find a Renaissance-style watermill with four functioning waterwheels and a millrace. Via Strachotice (Rausenbruck), Vrbovec, and Dyjákovičky, the route returns to the Austrian side. Here, you’ll ride through picturesque vineyards and then reach the longest wine cellar lane in the Weinviertel near Hadres, featuring around 400 wine press houses and cellars. There’s also a showroom displaying old winemaking tools.

The route then heads westward “into” the Pulka Valley. Via Alberndorf and Haugsdorf, the route continues to Karlsdorf and Pernersdorf before returning to Hadres. Numerous wine cellar lanes and cozy wine taverns line the route, inviting you to linger over a good glass of wine and delicious local delicacies.

Afterward, you’ll cycle on to Obritz. If you wish, you can shorten the route here by taking the “Beim Neubach” path back to Seefeld. However, you’d then miss a special highlight of this tour. This section takes you to Mailberg and through its idyllic vineyards. Here, four wine cellar lanes await you, housing the winemakers’ varietal wines in their well-maintained press houses and cellars, inviting you to taste them. One of these wine cellar lanes is even a listed historic site. So it’s well worth exploring this beautiful setting. Cycling straight across the Purmannsfeld, you’ll pass through Großkadolz on your way back to the starting point in Seefeld.

By car, Seefeld-Kadolz can be reached via the B45 federal highway—take the exit for Großkadolz.

There is a bus route from Laa/Thaya to Seefeld-Kadolz.
