Description

On historic rails through the Mostviertel - on a train ride on the Erlauftalbahn.

The creation of today's Erlauftalbahn is primarily due to the flourishing small iron industry in Lower Austria's Erlauftal in the mid-19th century: the new rail route made the local ironworks competitive. The train connection also boosted tourism.

Originally, the line ran from Pöchlarn to Kienberg-Gaming. Since the end of 2010, the Erlauftalbahn has only run as far as Scheibbs. It passes Erlauf, Petzenkirchen, Wieselburg, Schauboden and Purgstall, among others. From the terminus in Scheibbs, passengers can continue their journey by bus.
