Description
The section of the EuroVelo 9 that runs through the Vienna Alps is just under 50 kilometers long, but gives a foretaste of the beautiful landscapes this cycle route connects. At the foot of the Bucklige Welt, this route leads from the plain into the alpine landscape of the Wechsel area.
At the gateway to the Vienna Alpine arc, the section of the EuroVelo 9 begins and directs the visitor's gaze to the varying altitudes, comparable to the greater Alpine arc.
- safety instructions The bike route runs on bike paths separated from the road along the entire route. It is therefore particularly suitable for families with children. Check the weather report in advance.
- Equipment For outings, we recommend wearing a bike helmet. Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. Remember rain and sun protection. Bring enough to drink.
- Route description The starting point of this section of the EuroVelo 9 through the Vienna Alps is the train station in Wiener Neustadt. After leaving the urban area, the route leads via Katzelsdorf and Lanzenkirchen to Bad Erlach, to the Linsberg Asia Thermal Spa. Along the Rosalia hill range, we now reach Walpersbach. The further route continues to Pitten, Seebenstein, Scheiblingkirchen-Thernberg, and Warth to Grimmenstein. Enjoying the hilly landscape of the Bucklige Welt on both sides, the EuroVelo 9 leads on a flat stretch through Edlitz and Thomasberg to Aspang Markt. From here, it goes on more sporty and we reach Mönichkirchen via Aspangberg - St. Peter.
- Parking There are plenty of parking facilities around the station in Wiener Neustadt.For the routes from Mönichkirchen to Wiener Neustadt, parking spaces are available in Mönichkirchen.
- Getting there By car on the A2 motorway to Wiener Neustadt. Exit towards the city center. It is recommended to choose the train station as the starting point towards Mönichkirchen.Alternatively, it is possible to drive by car to Mönichkirchen and cycle the bike path towards Wiener Neustadt.
- Public transport For the journey to Wiener Neustadt, the southern railway line with international express trains from Vienna and Graz is recommended.Thanks to bicycle carriage on the regional train from Wiener Neustadt, it is also possible to cycle the EuroVelo 9 northwards, i.e. from Aspang am Wechsel to Wiener Neustadt.More information can be found at www.oebb.at
