When choosing a route, make sure it’s appropriate for your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your cell phone and maps in your backpack.

We recommend wearing a bike helmet. Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. Be sure to bring rain gear and sun protection. Also, be sure to bring plenty to drink.

The route runs along the state highway between the police station and the castle in Bad Großpertholz. After about 800 m (before a sharp left curve), turn right onto a forest/field path toward Steinbach, then cross the federal highway at Gasthaus Winter in Steinbach and immediately turn right again onto the road toward Mühlbach. Before the railroad crossing of the Waldviertel Narrow-Gauge Railway, turn right again onto a forest path (Holzgrabenweg). At the next intersection, turn right again, then follow the route to Bruderndorf. Immediately upon entering the town, turn left past Bruderndorf, and at the next intersection with the state road, turn right. After about 350 meters, turn right again onto a dirt road. At the next fork, keep left and continue along the path to the next intersection; here, continue straight ahead. At the next fork, turn right, then keep left again. The route joins a paved road; at the next intersection, keep right again. At the intersection with the state road, turn left, and you’ll return to the starting point.

Coming from St. Pölten, take the S33 to Krems, then the B37 and B38 to Zwettl, via Jagenbach, Engelstein, and Mühlbach to Bad Großpertholz.

Coming from Vienna, take the A22 and S5 to Krems, then the B37 and B38 to Zwettl, via Jagenbach, Engelstein, and Mühlbach to Bad Großpertholz.

Coming from the west: Take the A1 to Linz, then the A7 to Unterweitersdorf, then the S10 to the Sandl exit, then the B38 to Karlstift, and finally the B41 to Bad Großpertholz.
