Route characteristics: 40% asphalt, 60% forest and gravel trails

When choosing a route, make sure it matches your fitness level. Check to see if the restaurants and cafes you plan to visit along the way are open. Pack your cell phone and maps in your backpack.

Sturdy shoes, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, maps, trekking poles if needed, first-aid kit (blister bandages), plenty of food (snacks, granola bars, fruit, water).

The hiking trail, which is about 9 km long, starts at the market square and heads toward Weitra.
Once you leave the village, you’ll pass the junction with the Wünschelrutenweg. After that, you’ll see the “Haider-Marterl” on your left. Shortly after that, turn left onto the path toward Mistelbach.
Continue keeping to the left on the paved farm road. Before the house numbered 13—currently painted blue—turn left and leave the village. The trail climbs gently the entire way. A forest trail begins at the edge of the woods. At the first intersection, turn left; at the next intersection, turn right.
You’ll now reach the turnaround point of the Wünschelrutenweg (No. 21). Turn right toward Frauhaus, and after 50 m in the high forest, turn right again. You’ll reach the Frauhaus rock formation, an idyllic area with rock piles and geomantic faults. After exploring the area, head back 100 m toward the road and turn right onto the path. Shortly thereafter, take a sharp left toward Oberwindhag. You’ll reach Oberwindhag and, after about 100 m, turn left onto a paved farm road. This road will take you back to Großschönau.
