Friesenhof hiking trail

Make sure when choosing your route that it matches your fitness level. Check whether the restaurants you want to visit along the way are open. Pack your charged mobile phone and map material in your backpack.

Sturdy footwear, functional clothing, sun and rain protection, map material, if necessary telescopic poles, first aid kit (blister plasters), sufficient provisions (snack, muesli bars, fruit, water).

The path leads to Hypolz and continues over the Zwettl River bridge up to Freitzenschlag. At the end of the village, you turn onto a dirt road and then hike along the edge of the forest to Friesenhof. From the elevation at Friesenhof, there are beautiful views of Groß Gerungs and the Waldviertel landscape. From here, you go down into the romantic Zwettl Valley and walk along the forest road to the Schafsteg. Here you cross the Zwettl and hike back over Hypolz to Groß Gerungs.

Coming from St. Pölten via S33 to Krems, then via B37 and B38 to Zwettl, and via B38 to Groß Gerungs.

Coming from Vienna via A22 and S5 to Krems, then via B37 and B38 to Zwettl, and via B38 to Groß Gerungs.

Coming from the west via A1 to Linz, then on A7 and S10 to Freistadt, B38 to Karlstift, B38 to Groß Gerungs.

Bus connections from Krems via Zwettl, from Linz via Karlstift or Arbesbach, and from Gmünd to Groß Gerungs.
